Together We Go Farther
A well-known African proverb says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This philosophy guides the mission of Mbog Liaa and Mbai Bassa California.
Working together to strengthen the Bassa-Mpoo-Bati community and expand their impact, the two organizations joined forces to launch Mbog Liaa USA West Coast on November 23, 2019, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The official launch took place in the presence of Jerome Minlend and Pie Bayehe and marked the culmination of a three-day series of cultural and social events held from November 22–24, 2019 across Silicon Valley.
These events celebrated the rich heritage of the Bassa-Mpoo-Bati people, showcasing their culture, traditions, and community spirit. Participants also had the opportunity to visit some of the world’s leading technology hubs, including Apple, Google, Facebook, NASA Ames Research Center, Intel, HP, and Twitter.
Strengthening Our Community Network.
The creation of Mbog Liaa USA West Coast provides Bassa-Mpoo-Bati associations and communities across the western United States with a regional platform to collaborate, coordinate initiatives, and expand their impact.
According to Alain Nonga, joining the Mbog Liaa network brings two major benefits:
In the short term
- Expanding the outreach and visibility of Mbai Bassa California across the United States.
In the long term
- Leveraging the global Mbog Liaa network and expertise to ensure the sustainability and long-term success of development projects that improve living conditions for communities in Cameroon.
Connecting Culture, Knowledge, and Innovation
For Mbog Liaa and Mbog Liaa USA, the launch of the West Coast chapter represents an important milestone in expanding the organization’s presence in North America. By building stronger connections with innovation hubs such as Silicon Valley, the organization seeks to leverage technological expertise, knowledge sharing, and partnerships to support community development initiatives.

About Mbai Bassa California
Mbai Bassa California was founded in 2012 to bring together people of Bassa-Mpoo-Bati heritage living in California. Its mission is to:
- Promote solidarity and connection among members
- Educate the public about Bassa-Mpoo-Bati culture and build bridges with other communities
- Support development projects in Cameroon in areas such as education, healthcare, clean water, and sustainable economic initiatives

Founded in 1995, Mbog Liaa is a non-political and non-religious cultural organization that unites associations of people of Bassa-Mpoo-Bati heritage around the world.
